Fortescue is supporting a new round of community-led projects across the Pilbara, with more than $270,000 awarded through its FY26 Community Grants Program.

The grants will help local organisations deliver initiatives that support young people, celebrate culture and create more opportunities for communities across the Town of Port Hedland, City of Karratha, Shire of Ashburton and Shire of East Pilbara.

This year’s program places a strong focus on youth development, education and giving young people more opportunities to take part in community and sporting activities, with funding supporting projects including the North West Football Championships, STEM learning initiatives, youth media programs and school readiness activities.

A significant theme across the FY26 program is support for Aboriginal-led initiatives and programs that help keep culture strong and connect people to Country and community. Funded projects include Men’s OCHRE, Woodbrook Lore, NAIDOC Nothing but Net and youth engagement activities linked to the Martu Festival.

The program also backs a range of health, wellbeing and liveability initiatives, including environmental programs, inclusive community events and upgrades to local sporting and community infrastructure across the Pilbara.

Several projects are focused on building local skills and community capacity, including volunteer training opportunities, local business development initiatives and governance programs for regional community organisations.

Fortescue Director Approvals, Communities and Services Rosli Wheelock said: “These grants are helping local organisations deliver programs that matter to their communities and create opportunities for people across the Pilbara.

“The organisations receiving funding this year are making a real difference in their communities, whether that’s supporting young people, strengthening cultural connections or bringing people together.”

The FY26 Community Grants Program continues Fortescue’s long-standing investment in regional communities and partnerships across the Pilbara.
